Beechwood Library The Facts

Councillors Ann McLachlan, Jim Crabtree and Harry Smith Standing Outside Beechwood LibraryContrary to published reports your Labour Ward Councillors have strongly opposed the closure of the Beechwood Estate library and have secured a three month extension from the planned closure date at the end of March until the beginning of July 2009.

All three of us voted for the Strategic Asset Review at a meeting of the Council on 9th February 2009 – had we not done so then the Library would have closed at the end of March.

The Toy Library will remain on the Beechwood Estate – this is a Wirral wide facility for which we have opposed plans to move it and have secured agreement that it will be retained on Beechwood.

We have set up a Steering Group and will be working with all Community organisations including Schools to look at ways of funding, retaining and developing leisure and book lending services on Beechwood.

Our aims and objectives have always been to ensure that residents of the Beechwood Community have full access to as many services and facilities as possible.
