Swift Action From Cllr Harry Smith & Wirral Borough Council

Driving to work this morning your humble scribe noticed that some lamp posts where illegally sporting BNP signs.

A quick text message was dispatched to Bidston St James Labour Councillor Harry Smith at 0800,  by 0815 Cllr Smith had texted me back explaining that he had spoken to the relevant Director who arranged to have them removed as quickly as possible as well as scout around for further examples and indeed several where found and removed over quite a wide area.

Well done to Cllr Smith and Wirral Borough Council for their swift intervention and lets hope the Council is able to mount a prosecution.

A Mobile Phone Mast In Moreton Similar To The One Proposed For Laird Street

Following the successful campaign your local Labour Councillors fought in partnership with the community to close the sex shop on Laird Street. We faced yet another unwelcome proposal which involved the installation of a mobile phone mast on the pavement very close to the new doctor’s surgery on Laird Street. We strongly felt that the proposed phone mast was against the best interests of the local community.

Supported by Labour Ward Councillor Cllr Ann McLachlan, the local community organised a petition which attracted 195 signatures.

The petition was presented on behalf of the Community to a meeting of the Full Council last Monday by Cllr McLachlan, ready for when the proposal was due for consideration by the Council’s Planning Committee on the following Thursday.

Cllr Ann McLachlan attended the Planning Meeting on behalf of the Local Community, where the Planning Committee was told that Vodafone had withdrawn the application. No doubt the prompt actions of the Local Community supported by the local Labour Councillors was a major factor in Vodafone’s decision.

Another victory for the Local Community with the support of Labour Councillors
