But what an uneasy marriage there has been between the Wirral Liberals and Tories! It seems some Liberal Councillors are murmering darkly about 'shotgun weddings'.

But when it comes to the polls what will the voters think? Where the Liberals are in competition with the Tories will voters think 'We might as well vote for the real Tories in the first place if that's what we'll get anyway.' Or will we see a major shift towards Labour? Either way it seems the Liberals have taken a short term gamble for a long term loss. Whatever were they thinking of?
